What is carbon monoxide, and how may it be harmful to drivers?
A colorless, odorless, tasteless gas in exhaust fumes. It can cause drowsiness, headache, or death. Never run an engine in a closed garage; keep the exhaust system intact; do not sit in a parked car with the motor running and the windows closed.
Why are seat belts important?
They keep you from being thrown from the car (your chance of being killed is about five times greater if you are thrown), reduce impact with the dashboard, and help you keep control. The driver and all passengers must buckle up. A child under 8 must be in an approved car seat unless taller than 4'9".
What is meant by defensive driving?
Protecting yourself and others from unexpected danger: stay alert, keep your eyes moving, look for trouble developing, have a plan, and know the law requires you to protect others from their own mistakes.
Child passenger-safety rule?
Any child under 8 must be in a federally approved car seat unless the child is taller than 4 feet 9 inches. The driver and every passenger in a belted seat must buckle up.
